The 1 day Gorilla trekking safari is an extraordinary package for those eager to see Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. Trekking will take place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and we have planned that it starts and ends in Kisoro or Kabale because the distance from Uganda’s Airport to Bwindi needs around 8 hours for one to get to the park hence making impossible to trek gorillas in one day. However, the 1 day trekking experience can also be done by using a regional flight from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi and back.
In order to trek gorillas, tourists are supposed to have a fully paid for gorilla permit which costs $700. Travelers on business conferences or trips and have fewer days in Uganda, are advised to do this 1 day safari.
This trip is but will require you rise up early since you will be coming from Kabale or Kisoro and it can take you about 1 – 2 hours to get to the park head office. So have an early breakfast and pack some snacks, meet the guide who will brief you and begin your journey to Bwindi. Upon arrival, drive to the park head office for briefing about trekking gorillas and by 8am you will assigned to a group of trekkers to trek a given gorilla family guided by a skilled park guide.
Navigate through the forest as you look for the Mountain Gorillas, the trek can last between 2 and 6 hours but only 1 hour is given to the trekkers to enjoy company with these gentle giants. Take pictures, observe how they feed, behave and socialize.
After the trek, have lunch and meet the driver who will transfer you back to Kabale or Kisoro. However, in case you would wish to have more days in Bwindi you could check out our 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari
Trekking takes place in four sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable and each sector has habituated families of Gorillas. These are; Nkuringo, Rushaga, Buhoma and Ruhija.
Also note that gorilla trekking also takes place in Mgahinga National Park and its sector is called Nyakagezi. The permit costs the same price as that of Bwindi.
