National Parks and Game Reserves
Over 30% of the country’s surface area is covered by gazetted places known as national parks which are homes to wildlife species. The country hosts 34 game reserves and 20 national parks and these include; Kafue, Lower Zambezi, South Luangwa, Luambe, West Sioma, Kasanka, Liuwa Plain, North Luangwa, Nsumbu National Parks and many more.
Many of these are home to wildlife species like lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, antelopes as well as bird species, butterflies, moths and plant life.
Rich Rivers
Zambia is blessed with 3 major rivers, also small rivers and several tributaries. The country is among Africa’s most water rich countries. The source of the magnificent Zambezi River is found in the country’s northwestern region and makes its way until it makes a border with Zimbabwe.
Other rivers are Kafue and Luangwa which head out and pour into the Indian Ocean, they are found in Kafue and Luangwa National Parks respectively. They are home to many numbers of hippos, water birds, crocodiles and several other wildlife species that drink from them to quench their thirst, hence great places for game viewing, canoeing and fishing.
Breathtaking waterfalls
It not only has rivers, but the rivers at some points turn into spectacular displays of falling water known as waterfalls. The most beautiful waterfalls are the Victoria Falls, then the Kundalila falls, Kalambo falls, Ngonye falls and Lumangwe falls, Chipembe falls and Nyambwezi falls.
