8 Days Botswana Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Arrival Maun, Botswana – Air transfer to Okavango

Upon reaching Maun, Botswana, visitors are greeted by a representative and transferred to a light charter plane for the flight into the initial camp situated in the south eastern part of the Okavango delta. The Okavango supports an astounding wealth of wildlife, including lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, hyenas, wild dogs, kudu, impala, roan, zebras, lechwe, hippos, and crocodiles, just to mention a few. African safari vacations in Botswana offer the chance to witness this incredible biodiversity firsthand. The waters of the delta are home to 80 fish species such as bream and the beautiful tiger fish. The varied habitats of the Okavango Delta are home to around 500 recorded bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers on safari holidays. Accommodation is provided at Pom Pom Camp in the Okavango.

Day 2 and 3: Safari activities in Okavango

Days 2 and 3 are dedicated to full days of safari activities in this section of the delta. The amazing miracle of the Okavango is that its floodwaters arrive across the delta at the beginning of the dry season in May, June, and July. This delayed arrival occurs because the Okavango river originates far away in the highlands of Angola, some 500km to the northwest, and it takes months for the water to gradually flow downstream and spread out across the delta. Safari tours here focus on game drives as well as walks in some of the most picturesque and secluded areas of the Okavango. Accommodation continues at Pom Pom Camp.

Day 4: Flight to Kasane ( 1 hr) – Drive to Chobe Lodge (15 Mins)

On day 4, visitors fly from the initial camp to a different part of the Okavango to experience the activities available there. This involves a shift to the northern region of the delta. Activities include mokoro rides, boating, fishing, walks, and at certain camps, game drives are also offered. This region presents a stark contrast to the Okavango Delta. The Chobe River flows along the north-eastern border of the park and serves as a favorite watering spot for large herds of elephants, buffalo, and other mammal species during the dry season on African safari vacations. The landscape features lush plains and dense teak forests. Elephants can frequently be seen swimming from island to island in search of good grazing opportunities. Safari activities are enjoyed around the Savuti Channel or Linyanti River on boats, vehicles, or from hides. Accommodation is at the Chobe Safari Lodge.

Day 5: Safari activities in Chobe National Park

The entire fifth day is dedicated to safari activities in Chobe National Park. The days are spent on safari game drives, bush walks, and boat rides on the waterways of the Okavango. Visitors have the opportunity to catch glimpses of stealthy predators like leopards and lions or witness the incredible hunting skills of a pack of African wild dogs. Elephants, hippos, and crocodiles are abundant in the reed-lined waterways of the delta. Visitors can learn more about this unique ecosystem and the creatures that inhabit it while accompanied by the lodge's skilled trackers and rangers. Accommodation continues at Chobe Safari Lodge.

Day 6: Road Transfer to Victoria Falls

Safari activities in the area continue on the sixth day. The day is devoted to two game activities, alternating between land and water-based safaris. The presence of experienced rangers and trackers enables visitors to explore the wonders of this wilderness area and gain insights into the habits and behaviors of the animal species encountered on these African safari tours. An afternoon sunset cruise on the Chobe River provides a unique perspective to observe herds of antelope and elephants as they approach the water's edge for a late afternoon drink, their senses always attuned to detect predators that might be lurking in the vegetation along the riverbank. Visitors stay at Kwando Lagoon.

Day 7: Victoria Falls Tours

On day 7, visitors fly from the camp to Kasane, where they board vehicles for an 85 km drive to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Upon arrival, visitors check into a hotel on a bed and breakfast basis, allowing them the freedom to dine where they please and partake in any of the wonderful activities available at the falls. This itinerary includes only 1 night at Victoria Falls. (If visitors wish to sign up for activities like a one-day white water rafting or elephant back riding, or if they prefer to enjoy the Victoria Falls at a more leisurely pace, it is recommended to book a 2-night stay at the falls.) Accommodation is provided at Azambezi River Lodge.

Day 8: Departure

The safari adventures conclude after breakfast on day 8, with a transfer from the hotel or lodge to the airport.
