Home to 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey. it’s fair to say this place will keep you on your toes.
You can use a tracking experience to follow these fascinating primates through the forest or take a guided nature walk where you can spot monkeys, birds, and other wildlife along the way. And don’t miss out on an opportunity to walk the Nyungwe Canopy Walkway. The bridge hangs 60 meters above the forest floor and guarantees breathtaking views that’ll make your jaw drop.

Rubavu – Beach Town on Lake Kivu
Rubavu is like no other beach town you’ve ever seen before. It sits on the northern shore of Lake Kivu in Rwanda and is known for its colonial-era architecture and laid-back atmosphere. If you need any more reasons as to why it’s perfect for relaxation after hitting safaris or trekking excursions? I’m not sure what else there is.
Spend your days lounging on some sandy beaches then head into those warm waters for a swim. Also be sure give yourself time to explore this beautiful town with quaint streets bursting with colorful markets that’ll leave your senses tingling. Just minutes away from here is another must-see location, the Ndaba Falls. A stunning waterfall that cascades down a rocky cliff into a small pool below.
Lastly, make sure to take a boat ride to one of the nearby islands and visit a local fishing village for that unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Gishwati-Mukura National Park – Chimpanzees and Waterfalls
This is what I like to call “the new kid on the block” out western Rwanda. It’s known for its incredible biodiversity and stunning waterfalls. Though it’s small it doesn’t lack any important details for your trip.
Though there’s only about 20 chimpanzees here don’t let that fool you about its diversity when it comes to other primates, birds or plants!
Naturally starting with guided nature walks through forests where you can spot monkeys, birds again along with other wildlife. Second would be taking hikes to one of two park’s stunning waterfalls. The Karisimbi Falls or the Gishwati Falls will take your breath away… literally as well because these hikes are no joke! Lastly is something not everyone gets to see or experience so make sure you do if given the chance. Visit the nearby Kinihira Tea Factory where they’ll walk you through traditional methods of growing and processing tea in Rwanda!

Forest of Hope Guest House: It’s eco-friendly located right on edge of park where guests have enjoyed their time there very much. Delicious local cuisine, range of activities from nature walks to cultural experiences included here.
Gishwati Forest Lodge: In the middle of the forest, this rustic lodge offers guests comfortable tented rooms, a cozy fireplace lounge, and easy access to the best attractions and activities in the park.
Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo – Twin Lakes Adventure
Northern Rwanda is home to two beautiful crater lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Their crystal-clear waters are perfect for a peaceful getaway and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanoes.
Trek around the lakes during your stay. The stunning views of the volcanoes and lush green hills will make you feel like you’re walking through a dream. For something more thrilling, take a canoe or kayak out onto the water and explore along the shoreline. You’ll be able to spot birds and other wildlife along your journey. Finally, make time to visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village before you leave. There you can learn about how locals used to live in rural Rwanda back in the day while participating in cultural activities such as dancing and drumming.

Nyanza – Royal Capital and Cultural Heritage
Nyanza is a small Rwandan town with an enormous amount of history packed inside its borders. As a former capital of the Kingdom of Rwanda, it’s home to several important cultural sites and museums that will take visitors’ breath away.
Begin by visiting King’s Palace Museum just outside Nyanza’s limits. There you can learn about the history of the Rwandan monarchy while walking through traditional royal huts and witnessing ancient artifacts. Next, stop by Ethnographic Museum for a guided tour. They’ll walk you through the traditional way of life and culture of the Rwandan people. Lastly, swing by Nyanza Milk Bar. It’s a favorite spot among locals, and you can enjoy fresh milk and other dairy products while chatting with some of them.

Huye – University Town and Coffee Plantations
In southern Rwanda sits Huye, otherwise known as Butare. This vibrant university town is perfect for anyone looking to experience modern Rwanda in all its glory while also learning about its rich history and culture.
Spend your days wandering through coffee plantations if you’re interested in how local farmers grow their beans before they hit your cup every morning. There are stunning views everywhere you look here so make sure to bring your camera along everywhere you go. When it comes time to eat, hit up one of Huye’s many restaurants or street food spots for some savory dishes that will take your taste buds on an adventure.

Start off with a tour of the National University of Rwanda. It will give you an insight into the country’s education system as well as let you see the campus. For your next stop, check out a coffee plantation nearby. Either Huye Mountain Coffee Company or Maraba Coffee Washing Station would be perfect options. Both show traditional growing and processing methods used in Rwanda. Last but not least, there is the Ethnographic Museum which showcases Rwandan people’s culture and way of life.
